This list can be utilized by you or provided to your contractor to address moisture, mold, siding, roofing, and foundation concerns. You cannot maintain the interior without first maintaining the exterior.
As fall arrives, it’s a great time to take care of a few simple maintenance items before colder weather sets in. A little preventative maintenance now can help protect your home and potentially prevent costly repairs later.🍂 Fall Home Maintenance Checklist- Clean your gutters and downspouts — Remove leaves and debris, and make sure downspouts direct water away from the foundation.- Check the roof — Look for damaged or missing shingles, deteriorated flashing, and areas where leaves or debris are collecting.- Service your heating system — Replace the HVAC filter and consider having your heating system professionally inspected before you need it.- Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors — Replace batteries as needed and make sure each device is working properly.- Inspect exterior plumbing — Disconnect garden hoses, shut off exterior water where appropriate, and protect exposed plumbing from freezing temperatures.- Check windows and doors — Inspect weatherstripping and caulking for gaps that can allow cold air and moisture inside.- Look around the foundation — Make sure soil slopes away from the house and that water isn't pooling near the foundation.- Trim trees and branches — Remove dead or overhanging branches that could become a hazard during winter storms.Fall is also a great time to walk around your home with a critical eye. Think again if you think you don’t need a home inspection for a new build. Just a few defects I found on the last new build that will save the buyer a headache. Hose faucet is not hooked up to a waterline, large gaps in siding that will cause moisture entry and mold, shower door not closing, oven that didn’t heat. #getahomeinspection
